Our Culture

Play, Learn, Grow

Staff at Harlem RBI and DREAM meet high expectations, but we don’t forget about having fun. We place importance on giving our all to our youth but we also believe in building a sustainable culture for our staff.

From summer-time barbecues on our inspiring Field of Dreams to weekly shout-outs, we take time to recognize and celebrate success with one another. Check out our unique benefits below to learn more.

We’re always learning through feedback. We give, seek and act on feedback so that we can reach our goals. Feedback moves in every direction—up, down and across—because we know this is what makes us excellent. We ask for help when we need it.

For example, at DREAM, we practice our practice – our delivery, management techniques, attention moves, everything we do is better when we model in front of colleagues. We believe that becoming experts in our field and in our content dramatically impacts our program and our scholars.

All staff at Harlem RBI and DREAM set yearly professional goals. We work with our supervisors to set benchmarks and receive structured support to push ourselves toward success. We believe in a set of core and leadership competencies and use them to identify and develop our growth areas. Every week, staff check in with supervisors to address successes and potential challenges at Harlem RBI. At DREAM, all teachers have weekly Professional Development and individual feedback sessions based on personalized goals with Academic Deans and Principals.

We love baseball! Hold meetings in the “Dugout” and print on "Slugger". Even if you don’t know the game, baseball lingo is scattered throughout - from the name of meeting rooms to our printers.

Our expanding team

In 1991, Harlem RBI began when a group of volunteers transformed an abandoned, garbage-strewn lot into two baseball diamonds for the youth of East Harlem. Since that time, Harlem RBI's campus has grown tremendously with three multi-use offices, a beautiful softball field, and a new building underway to house headquarter offices and DREAM Charter School.

Then for the first time in its history, Harlem RBI expanded its programs into the South Bronx in 2013 after identifying similar needs found in East Harlem. We're excited to continue building relationships with the community and eventually establish our full breadth of K-12 programming. Soon enough, we’ll even have our own South Bronx Field of Dreams!

In addition, by 2015, Harlem RBI and DREAM will open our new headquarters and school building on Second Avenue and 104th Street. Click here for more on our new building!
